What is Occupational Therapy (OT) ?

OT is a type of therapy for individuals who want to navigate daily life better, focusing on roles, routines, and relationships that are important to them.

Occupational Therapists like Santyna support people in doing the activities they want or need to do, but find challenging due to any number of reasons, such as disability, mental health symptoms, pain, anxiety, and systemic barriers.

These activities can include:

  • Self-care: showering/hygiene, meditating, attending medical appointments, taking medications on time, etc.

  • Leisure: socializing, dancing, crafting, reading, etc.

  • Productivity: Studying, caretaking, working, organization, etc.

OT looks at your nervous system and body, your environments (home, work, school, community), culture and spirituality, and the systems around you.

At The Witch’s Therapist, this process is collaborative: you set the pace and the priorities.

OT at The Witch’s Therapist may be supportive for people navigating:

  • Trauma and complex trauma (PTSD, CPTSD, BPD), dissociation (DPDR), sleep disruption and insomnia

  • Anxiety & panic, agoraphobia, intrusive thoughts

  • Neurodivergence (ADHD, ASD, CPTSD), diffculty with starting tasks, planning, following schedules, staying focused

  • Emotion regulation needs (identifying triggers, understanding root causes, coping strategies)

  • Chronic illness & chronic pain, fatigue (E.g., dysautonomia, diabetes, hypermobility/EDS, autoimmune conditions, traumatic brain injury, MS)

  • Identity-, culture-, migration-, and spirituality-related stressors

  • Barriers in school, work, caregiving, or community roles

Survival strategies are respected. You are more than a diagnosis.

What Our OT Services Can Include

  • Activity Design & Routine-Building: Spoon/energy balancing, pacing, values-based scheduling that honours your life, responsibilities, triggers, and flare cycles.

  • Chronic pain & Illness Support: Flare plans, gentle activation, sensory modulation, sleep/rest routines.

  • Psychotherapy for Mental Health Impacts: Santyna offers Occupational Therapy/Psychotherapy services that integrate both OT strategies and psychotherapy, including Internal Family Systems (IFS) Therapy (“Parts Work”), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT).

  • Systems Navigation: Supporting requests for accommodations and disability funding (assessment and completing relevant letters/forms), as well as vocational rehabilitation (if appropriate). Providing options for advocacy alongside you, never over you.

  • Spiritual Activity Integration (Optional): At The Witch’s Therapist, our OT, Santyna, is happy to support you with co-creating spiritual routines and rituals that feel aligned with your values and beliefs.
