Eclipse season anxiety can be difficult to navigate for neurodivergent people. Jennifer from The Witch’s Therapist talks about how to support yourself through this period.
Merry meet, my dear witches!
We haven’t had the privilege of connecting yet because I only recently joined The Witch’s Therapist.
I’m Jennifer Pilling.
A registered social worker and EMDR therapist.
An irreverent crone.
A grounded mystic.
A devout animist.
And a Reiki Master.
I am writing to you from deep in eclipse season.
This is a powerful time which can bring revelation, chaos, and accelerated change.
Perhaps you’ve experienced all of the above.
I know I have, and it has been humbling.
And I am here to share what is helping me through this portal and will support the new beings we are all becoming.
Why Is Eclipse Season So Unsettling?
The eclipses can be deeply unsettle for all of us.
But that’s especially true for those of us neurodivergent folks.

We’re already in a constant state of adapting the way our brains work to fit in with our neurotypical society’s expectations.
As a result, managing the added cognitive load of sudden, unexpected change can make it even harder to feel safe and grounded.
I would like to share a few things that I will be doing to manage this time of transition.
Feel free to give them a try to help yourself feel ready to release the things which are no longer serving you and step into your life’s new direction with confidence.
1. Prioritize Rest and Resourcing
The first thing I do when I am heading into a difficult time is anticipate the effect that it will have on my physical body.
We neurodivergent folks often struggle with interoception.
That’s the brain’s ability to interpret the body’s messages.
Unmet physical needs will often amplify our neurodivergent characteristics.
This eclipse season I am going to make sure that I have a good supply of water and high protein snacks on hand at all times.
I may sneak in a nap or two when I get the chance as well.
I am also scheduling time for grounding activities.
That includes 5 or 10 minutes of exhale-focused breathing, gentle rocking, or restorative yoga.
All of this can make a huge difference in my internal sense of safety.
What does rest and resourcing look like for you?
2. Change the Narrative
Remember that eclipses do not happen to you, they happen for you.
Create a sense of predictability by taking a look at areas in your life where you are already feeling stuck or might you have been avoiding.
If you have a copy of your birth chart, take a look at which astrological house is most influenced by Leo.
This can help narrow your focus on the things that the eclipses may be revealing for you, and where you might expect change to happen.
If you prefer tarot or oracle cards, you can pull a card to get clarity.
3. Create Safety in Your Environment
Find the things that help you to feel safe and use them.
What are your sensory needs?
Do you prefer dim lighting and silence or are soft textures and background noise more soothing to you?
Are you a lover of crystals and healing stones?
Both tumbled and raw crystals can provide soothing sensory input and many use them to support specific types of healing - and they’re portable!
For the next two weeks, I will keeping a few of the following close by for added support:
Obsidian or black tourmaline for grounding and protection
Rose quartz for self compassion
Selenite for gently clearing heavy energy
Labradorite (my personal favourite) for protection and smooth transitions
4. Practice self compassion
Eclipse season can magnify our already intense experience of emotions.
For those of us who have trouble recognizing and identifying emotions in ourselves and others it can be particularly confusing and overwhelming.
This is a condition known as alexythimia.
Perhaps the most important thing to remember for the next week is to be gentle with yourself.
If you are having a hard time, remember that big emotions are a part of moving through eclipse season.
Try not to judge what you are feeling or why you are feeling it.
Take it as a cue to slow down and send yourself love so you can ‘ride the wave’.
The only work right now is to notice and dream.
